May Update and Upcoming Coffee Chats

May and June 2025

Hello fellow FMNEAs⭐ If you are receiving this newsletter, THANK YOU for subscribing!

This is such a busy time of year; we are onboarding our incoming R1s, promoting our current R1s to R2, and graduating our current R2s (while managing our offcycles)! Enhanced Skills programs are busy preparing for their new R3s while also moving into their season of CaRMS. We go from promotion to completion to orientation almost simultaneously. Rest assured, you are NOT alone in the chaos.

Coffee Chats are a great opportunity to connect with Program Admins all across Canada and to share thoughts, ideas, struggles, and wins. Though not all topics may apply to your work, we will do our best to provide opportunities for connection throughout the year. You are welcome to join any session, no matter the topic. We can all learn from one another!

Please take a moment to share this newsletter with your teams and encourage them to subscribe to receive updates! FMNEA - From Coast to Coast

🌎Supporting International Medical Graduates: Educational Session

International Medical Graduates, (IMGs), often enter externship programs facing significant stress due to the challenges to adapting to e new health care system, navigating cultural differences, and meeting the high stakes expectations of their training during a brief assessment period.

As program administrators, it is crucial for us to implement strategies that not only alleviate the stress but also create a safe, supportive environment, conducive to their success. By fostering supportive mentorship, providing tailored resources and encouraging open communication, we can ultimately empower IMGs to thrive within our provincial and Canadian health care systems; bringing with them much needed talent and resources.

Join us for an hour of collaboration as we share knowledge from across the country. Together we can make a difference in the externship process.

- Tannis Dorscht, Program Administrator – University of Calgary
